Whew! Through week 1!

Well we made it through the first week! I'm enjoying getting to know all of the students and hope this will be the start to a fabulous year!

For ALL the science classes, here is a sample lab report that can be modified to your class.

Title - this will usually be the title of the experiment listed in the book. For today's Chemistry class it will be "Soda and Mentos".

Hypothesis or Objective: This is a statement that describes what you think will happen in the experiment OR what you hope to achieve in the experiment. An example might be "To learn the parts of the microscope and accurately view prepared slides." or "To prove that Diet Coke is the best medium for creating a mentos geyser."

Supplies or Materials list: Simply list what you used to complete the lab.

Procedure: This is a step by step of what you actually did. Describe the process of completing the lab. An example might be: Microscope set up and light turned on. Prepared slide of spider placed on stage in it's lowest position and then viewed under 4x, 10x and 40x magnification. See attached drawings." Or it could be: "Diet coke uncapped and placed on the ground. While wearing eye protection, placed one mentos quickly into the bottle of diet coke and moved away. "

Conclusion: This is the place to tell what happened with the experiment. Did it go as planned? If not, what are some possible reasons why it didn't. What did you learn or accomplish? If you had a hypothesis, was it supported?

That is what I expect to see in a lab report each week if we do a lab. Please make sure they are typed up and in your notebooks by the following Monday. They won't help me if they are still on your computer!


On each syllabus I have put in when I will be giving a test. It is usually after every 2 modules. If your parents would like for you to take the module tests at the end of each module then that is up to them. I have tests planned out and it helps me to know where you are in your understanding of the material. If your parent would prefer you not take my tests and just take the module tests, then please let me know.

The syllabus has your reading assignment - when it says "Week Two" the expectation is that you will have completed the reading hopefully by Monday of that week and the lab that is mentioned will be our Wednesday class.
